Welcome back everyone! We are elated to get back to school this fall. This marks the 60th anniversary of the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired located in Aberdeen, SD. Aberdeen and the surrounding communities continue to be very supportive of our school and our students. Thank you for your assistance and the understanding you have demonstrated to us during those 60 years. The 2020 -2021 school year was a challenge, but we were able to accomplish a lot and are happy to announce that for a second year in a row, SDSBVI has been nominated for an ABBY award in the category of Bridge Builder. It is the essence of what we do here every day. We help students build bridges in their lives and navigate the bridges to their future life. This requires the efforts of many individuals and student determination to accomplish this goal. Good job everyone; keep up the good work!
Welcome back to those that are returning for the 2021-22 school year and welcome aboard to our new students, new families, and new staff. We hope that this year is an opportunity to add to the successes of last year.
(Superintendent Dan Trefz)
When the student needs touch cues, place the student’s hands on top of the teacher’s hands: this gives the student more choice about how much to feel and gives them a better level of comfort and control.
