In order to provide educational services during the 2020-2021, the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (SDSBVI) will create a plan that utilizes South Dakota Board of Regents (SD BOR), South Dakota Department of Education (SD DOE), South Dakota Department of Health (SD DOH), and Center for Disease Control recommendations to ensure the safety of its staff, students, and families. As statewide and local COVID-19 public health needs change over time, it is critical for SDSBVI to plan for a variety of learning scenarios for the 2020-21 school year. Multiple factors will be considered as preparations are made to reopen, including community health needs, student and employee safety, operations, and teaching and learning strategies. As impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic evolve, the SD DOH, SD DOE, and the SD BOR will continue to provide updated guidance and recommendations to the school on navigating the academic, social, and emotional effects on students and employees.
